AscendTMS vs RIZE TMS

AscendTMS is a big, broad system for brokers, shippers and carriers, priced per person who logs in. RIZE is smaller and built only for carriers, at one price for the company. Which is cheaper depends on how many people use it.

Prices checked on thefreetms.com/pricing on 19 October 2026.

The short answer

  • You want to search DAT or Truckstop from inside your TMS: AscendTMS does it, on every plan. You still pay DAT or Truckstop for your own subscription. RIZE doesn't search load boards.
  • You broker freight as well as haul it: AscendTMS is built for both. RIZE is for carriers only.
  • Just you, or you and one helper: RIZE is $39 for the company. AscendTMS is $69 for each person on Basic, so $69 for one and $138 for two.
  • An office of three or more: the gap grows. Three people on AscendTMS Basic is $207 a month; RIZE is still $39.

Per month. AscendTMS lists $69, $119 and $149 per user per month on thefreetms.com/pricing, 19 October 2026, and says it never charges for drivers, trucks or loads. Their home page says plans start at zero dollars; the pricing page lists no free plan, so this table goes by the pricing page.

Both charge nothing per truck. The difference is that AscendTMS counts the people at desks and RIZE doesn't: a company of three office logins pays $468 a year for RIZE and about $2,484 for AscendTMS Basic.

Where AscendTMS is the better fit

If you book your own freight off DAT or Truckstop and want to search it from the same screen you dispatch from, AscendTMS does that and RIZE does not. It also covers far more ground: brokering, EDI, e-signatures and GPS tracking on its bigger plans, and more than 230 features on the smallest. If you broker loads as well as run trucks, or expect to grow into a multi-office operation, it was built for that.

Where RIZE is the better fit

  • More than one person in the office. One price for the company, however many dispatchers, managers and bookkeepers log in.
  • Less to learn. RIZE does a carrier's work and nothing else, so there is no broker or shipper side to work around.
  • Loads from the rate con. Upload it, or take a photo, and the broker, stops, dates and rate are typed in for you.
  • The invoice packet. The rate con and signed POD go inside the invoice PDF, emailed straight from the load. How it works.
  • Spanish. Every screen, for everyone who wants it.
